Weddings

On the stage where I was married.

I had the pleasure of performing my first wedding ceremony on the very stage where I married my wife, Valerie. It was the occasion of the marriage of my friends, Phil and Theresa. All of us are members of the Players Guild of Dearborn, and the Guild allowed us to use the stage for our ceremonies. Phil and Theresa used the set of the show Dear Ruth which Phil had just directed.

The way a wedding should be.

Ministers, Rabbis, Judges, and Officiants do not marry people, people marry each other. We are just the official witnesses to this union. This is why your wedding should be the way that you want it to be. To say the words that you want to say. I am here to make this day your day, and to make it official.

I work from a collection of readings and words that have been used in other weddings. I ask the couple to pick from this collection, and I offer them the opportunity to add anything else they like, even if the entire ceremony is of their own creation. This is your day and it should reflect who you are. Don't be afraid to make it different and uniquely you. Even if that includes dressing for the part, be it in period costume or cowboy theme, this is your ceremony, whatever you want is what you should have. (As long as it is legal.) I have a theatrical background and I am open to different ideas.

Please contact me with any questions you may have. My fee is $275 for all wedding ceremonies, simple or complex. (There may be a small charge for gas if your ceremony includes a long drive.) I live and work in the Metropolitan Detroit area and am available to perform your ceremony at the location of your choice. Please contact me for availability.

  • Wedding Cakes by Linda Pratt

Linda is a baker by trade and would love to answer your questions about wedding cakes. Maybe even sell you one. You can visit her at www.MyCakePlace.net.
  • If I am not available, contact Linda!

Rev. Linda Pratt is a fun alternative to Rev. Haas. Sometimes Kirk gets booked early and sends requests Linda's way without a hint of hesitation. Her couples love her.

Here is a quote taken from TheKnot.com: "Linda was absolutely amazing!!  She was great with communicating via email, which was most convenient for me because I can't talk on the phone while at work.  She guided us through planning our entire ceremony, met with us in person, came to our rehearsal…….I love her!!"

So if  you notice in the list below that Kirk is booked please contact Linda at: linda@secularceremony.com.

Visit TheKnot.com and search for Kirk Haas to read reviews on Rev. Haas from the brides themselves!

Acknowledgement

I want to thank the Reverend Suzanne Paul, Unitarian Minister, for the inspiration to become a wedding officiant.

She performed my wedding to Valerie and showed me what a wedding minister should be. Many of the readings in my book are taken from the book she gave to me for use in our wedding.

Thank you, Reverend Paul.
